Mineralogical and Geochemical Implications of Weathering Processes Responsible for Soil Generation in Mănăila Alpine Area (Tulgheş 3 Unit—Eastern Carpathians)

In the Mănăila alpine area, soil layer developed in situ on top of sericite-schists, which belong to Tulghes 3 metamorphic unit. The aim present work was determine degree formation using both mineralogical and geochemical exploration methods. XRD, FTIR SEM-EDS results showed that constituents were dioctahedral 2:1 minerals, quartz, chlorite, Na-feldspar, rutire ilmenite. Mainly illite secondarily mixed-layer minerals considered be most likely resulting from transformation sericite chlorite under acidic conditions. Geochemical modeling inferred dominance presence smectite as a alteration product. weathering indices supported moderate stage development agreeing with observations. Because abundance quartz parent material, retarded, its composition is still related bedrocks.
